All Systems Are Go! Pokémon GO, That Is

Niantic Labs, creators of the wildly popular Ingress augmented reality game, have just announced that registration for its most recent project, Pokémon GO , is going public. I had the pleasure of playing a tech demo a few months back, and I can tell you that this game’s definitely worth the wait.

Built for iOS and Android platforms, the game’s due out sometime in 2016. Pokémon GO combines mobile-location technology using your mobile devices GPS function and augmented reality to create an immersive, one of a kind experience that motivates players to get off the couch , explore, catch wild Pokémon, and battle one another for the right to call yourself a Pokémon Master. Pokémon GO will also play host to hardware intended to make your adventures more seamless, such as a wristband that alerts you to the presence of wild Pokémon and a button on it that launches the app on your phone when pressed.

Lucky participants  will be given an unfinished version of the long-awaited mobile game to  play – the only stipulation is you’re required to provide feedback and bug reports to the developers. The beta-version will have a limited amount of features and gaps in functionality, but that’s to be expected as the game’s still in development.

You can register from now until Friday, May 20th for the beta here, and be sure to stay tuned to Niantic Labs blog for further details, as well as nerdslant for all things Pokémon GO related.

Ohaiyo Minasan! My name is Rick, a man of mystery and power, whose power is exceeded only by his mystery. I am a lover of all things nerd. From gaming, to comics to anime, I do it all. I really enjoy cosplay because everything is better when dressed up as your favorite superpowered-badass. My favorite game of all time hands down is Shenmue, and I recently gave up my Diablo 3 addiction, so my productivity (and drinking) have increased exponentially.
